What is a lead magnet and how can it help your business? 

You've probably heard of lead magnets before, but what do they actually do? And why should you care about one for your business? 

In this blog post, I'll explain what a lead magnet is and how it can help to grow your business. 

The idea behind a lead magnet is simple: You're giving something away for free, and the only thing you ask in return is that the customer give you their email address so you can contact them at a later stage with compelling content about your business. Lead magnets help build relationships with potential customers and create a platform for future sales opportunities.

That being said, does a “free downloadable pdf” sound enticing? No one wants another PDF file, they want the benefit inside.

Which is why you need a competing & concise title to demonstrate the benefit and desirable outcome of your lead magnet, so your audience says OMG I need this!

 

Well first of all, it’s important to answer 3 key questions:

 

1) Who is the lead magnet for? 

e.g. Busy mum entrepreneurs who need help growing their business

2) What is the niche topic?  

e.g.  Admin tasks that can be outsourced to a VA

3) What is the desired outcome? 

e.g. 8 hours saved per week meaning more time spent on focusing on what she does best

So what lead magnet could you create for your business? 

There are so many formats out there, however it’s best to start simple and go with something that is easy to create.

Here are a few format ideas:

  1. A video - video is a fantastic way to engage with your audience, whether you are a service provider or a product-based business, video lends itself well to bringing your brand to life.
     
  2. PDF guide - this is the easiest option and I would keep this very simple, no more than 5 pages
     
  3. Checklist - we all love a good checklist and this works well for providing people with an easy to follow set of tasks they need to achieve to in order to reach their desired goal.

The aim of the lead magnet goes beyond growing your subscriber list. It’s also a great way to provide a taste of what it would be like to work with you.


Once they are on your subscriber list they have already decided that they like you and want to find out more. Email marketing one of the most highly effective ways to build trust.

Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to market your business, because it allows you to reach people when they're most likely to be receptive. It also lets you tailor your message specifically for each person on the list.
